Located in beautiful northern Ontario, Nakina Lumber Inc. (Nakina Lumber), a subsidiary of the Buchanan group of companies, is a fully functioning lumber mill, manufacturing finished lumber products from trees harvested from the Ogoki Forest.  With up to 120 employees at any given time, Nakina Lumber provides a variety of employment opportunities for individuals, from general labourer positions, which require no prior experience, to skilled trade positions, such as industrial electrician, millright, saw filer and heavy equipment mechanic.  Various supervisory opportunities also exist, across all aspects of the operation.  Nakina Lumber is committed to ensuring at least 75% of its workforce is indigenous and is further committed to supporting the local economy through its targeted recruitment across Greenstone and the three First Nations of Aroland, Eabametoong and Marten Falls.  Nakina Lumber is certified through the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC Certified).

Silviculture Forester

Location: Ogoki Forest, In-person

Duration: Permanent Full-Time

As a Silviculture Forester at GFMI, you will lead silviculture planning and implementation in Northern Ontario’s Ogoki Forest. Key duties include supporting Forest Management Plans, conducting compliance inspections, managing monitoring data, and assisting with certification programs. This role requires strong analytical skills, field experience, and knowledge of Ontario’s forests. Ideal candidates hold or are eligible for Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation.

As a Natural Resource Technician at GFMI, you will support forestry and environmental management in Northern Ontario’s Ogoki Forest. Responsibilities include timber cruising, silviculture program implementation, compliance inspections, and environmental data collection. This role requires fieldwork in remote locations, strong analytical skills, and experience with forest operations. A background in forestry or natural resources and a valid Ontario Class-G driver’s license are preferred.

As a Forest Compliance Technician at GFMI, you will oversee compliance inspections in the Ogoki Forest, ensuring adherence to forestry regulations. Responsibilities include timber cruising, boundary layout, silviculture program implementation, and environmental assessments. This role requires fieldwork in remote locations, strong data management skills, and a Forest Compliance Inspector Certificate (L1). A background in forestry or natural resources and a valid Ontario Class-G driver’s license are preferred.
